How to Solve Issues

Before the Recording

  1. If your instructor's tablet does not work please follow the instructions in the Wacom Driver Reinstalls page to reinstall.
  2. If your instructor's mic does not work:
    • Make sure it has new batteries, batteries usually last 2 hours.
    • Usually there are two microphones for each classroom, take a different mic.
    • If the mic clip is missing, please find extra clips in the shelves of the Control Room Management Office (the office next to ISU 5/Howe 1344)
  3. If the Adobe Connect audio was too low/too high for last time's recording, before the lecture: Open your class's Adobe Connect room
    • Open your class' Adobe Connect room
      • Go to connect.extension.iastate.edu
      • Type Username & Password
      • Do the same as you do to setup Adobe Connect
      • When you go to share the microphone
        • share it and then click on the triangle drop down menu next to the microphone symbol
        • click on Adjust Microphone Volume
  4. If Marston Projectors do not seem to be working follow the instructions in the Projector Clone page.
  5. Video not focused
    • Do before class starts
    • If needed change during class
  6. If the Wirecast was closed before your class
    • ........

While Recording

  1. If Wirecast crashes:
  2. Didn’t switch to camera 3 (or switch back)
    • Pay attention to who’s talking
  3. Student not using mics
    • Remind them and instructor
  4. Didn’t push go—recorded wrong shot
    • Watch right screen in wirecast- this one is being recorded
  5. Adobe Connect not set up properly
    • Check before class
    • Video, mic, and share screen

After the Recording

  1. Audio too low/too high in Wirecastrecording:
    • Open your video from Encoder Files
    • Go to Window on the top menu bar -> Click on Show Movie Properties -> Click on Audio Settings -> Boost Volume to +6db/Decrease Volume to -db
  2. Audio too low/too high in Adobe Connectrecording:
    • Post the Adobe Connect link but write a warning to the students just in case so that their ears don't explode.
    • If the audio is unacceptable, do not post the Adobe Connect link and write a note instead for the students to view the Wirecast video in the Lecture Videos and Annotated Notes.
  3. Wirecast recording won't openon Blackboard Lecture Videos and Annotated Notes:
    • Make sure to go back to Firma folder to which you exported this video and check the naming convention you used for it.
    • It should be for example: EM345_L01_0.mov
    • No space between EM and 345, includes only ONE _0 after the lecture #, and has .mov after lecture name
  4. Video/notes named incorrectly
    1. LOOK AT SHEETS
    2. Save in class folder
  5. Video not focused
    • Do before class starts
    • If needed change during class
  6. Student not using mics
    • Remind them and instructor
  7. Checklist not filled out
    • Do it, helps remember what steps to take
  8. Didn’t start one or more recordings
    • Follow check list
  9. If the Adobe Connect audio plays like a chipmunk do not make the video public or post. On the Adobe Connect Recordings link, create an item that has the correct naming convention for the corresponding Adobe Connect Video and write a similar note to this one:

Hello Students,

Due to some Adobe Connect audio issues, the video was not posted. Please view the video on the Lecture Videos and Annotated Notes folder. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks,

ELO Staff
